Seeking Import License: Import license is required for imported products

The Ministry of Commerce issued a notice on 2nd February 2023. In the notice, it would be require applications for import license permit to imported products before they arrived at the ports.  

The notice already issued on 5th April 2022 and if imposters ignore the announcement and import their goods, actions will be taken in accordance with the import/export law, according to an official of Ministry of Commerce.

Lan San Oo, Director, Ministry of Commerce, said " We already announced a notice on 5th February 2022 through the news paper that if we found that the import goods without import license permit by the relevant departments, action will be taken in accordance with the export and import law. In order to apply for an import license to import the goods by sea trade, we divided 5 groups of goods in the foreign exchange supervision committee meeting. We have been approved immediately for the import goods under the group number 1, 2 and 3 are includes agricultural equipment and industrial raw materials, fuel and cooking oil, education and health related products. The raw materials, food and electronics products under other 2 groups are allowed to verify for a certain period of time."

According to the Ministry of Commerce, Myanmar aims to meet the foreign trade target of 30 billion USD in 2022-2023 financial years.
