Buddha Pujaniya festival: Aiming for flourishing Theravada Buddha Sasana

The 2611th Shwedagon Pagoda Buddha Pujaniya Tabaung festival will be held at Shwedagon pagoda. The festival is held annually by members of the Pagoda Treasure’s Board of Trustees.  

Htay Hlaing, Member, Pagoda Treasure’s Board of Trustees said "Buddha Pujaniya festival is held annually for a long time ago. This time, Maha Pathana recitation is being held at Shwedagon Pagoda starting 8th February for worshipping Buddha, Dhamma and Sanghas of Buddhism. In the 24th February morning, we will convey the 28 Buddha statues on the pagoda’s platform for the pilgrims’ worship. Shwedagon Pagoda Ovadacariya Sayadaws will recite non-stop Maha Pathana discourse in rotation for 10 days from 24th February to 5th March."

With the aim for flourishing of Theravada Buddha Sasana, traditional religious festival is held at the pagoda. 

Htay Hlaing, Member, Pagoda Treasure’s Board of Trustees said "The Shwedagon Pagoda is the landmark of Myanmar enshrined with relics of 3 Lord Buddhas and Hair Relics of Gautama Buddha. That’s why, the Buddha Pujaniya festival is held with the aim for preserving tradition and customs of Buddhists. "

According to the Shwedagon Pagoda Treasure’s Board of Trustees, the rice offering ceremony to Sayadaws and monks from the Ovadacariya monastery and nearby monasteries will be held in the evening of 4th March and the successful completion of Maha Pathana recitation will be held in the morning of 5th March.
