Importing and utilizing Evs: A pilot project is underway from 1st Jan. to 31st Dec.

National Steering Committee for Development of Electric Vehicle allows importing and utilizing electric vehicles in Myanmar as a pilot project starting from 1st January to 31st December this year for widely utilization of electric vehicles in local.  

Dy General Manager, Ministry of Industry, Myat Mon Thein said "We make inspection on the companies that they currently run their business in importing, production and selling of automobiles or not. We have also drafted 2050 EV policy in 2022 and we target to produce and assemble the parts of EVs cent per cent in 2050. From 2022 to 2025, the installed EVs are imported to Myanmar as short-term plan. After that, we will restrict importation of installed EVs and then move to the manufacturing process with SKT/CJT in local from 2025 to 2030. "

The Deputy General Manager for the Ministry of Industry also added that from 2030 to 2040, it must be implemented to manufacture EV with CJT system. That’s why, the investment amount of the factories have to be increased. It is targeted that the allowed companies must be able to manufacture a certain part of the EVs from 2040 to 2050 in local to be able to reach installation. 

Plans are underway to utilize the electric vehicles for tax exemptions in 2022 to 2023 and other benefits. Likewise, measures are underway to construct public charging stations for electric vehicles. Currently, there are 37 companies which reported proposals for importing electric vehicles and among them 6 companies have been allowed the import licenses.
