Birds’ nests breeding; Prices surge to 53,000 kyats per tickle in Taninthayi

The prices of natural birds’ nests are rising to 53,000 kyats per tickle in Tanintharyi Region and the number of breeders of birds’ nests has increasing in Myeik and Kawtoung districts. The birds’ nests from Thanintharyi Region has been distributed and sold with full code, logo and label in Myanmar language. The raw material of birds’ nests prices are about 36,000 kyats per 1 tickle and the final products are about 53,000 kyats per ticket, according to an official of department of consumer affairs. Kyaw Min, District Head (Tanintharyi), Department of Consumer Affairs, said " There are more than 800 islands in Myeik district. The birds use rocks to build their nests on islands. The breeders also build the natural birds houses to breed the bird nests and there are about 5 types of birds. Also breeders give them a place to build the nests and collect. Breeders collect the birds’ nests 2 times per year depending on the size of birds’ houses and get about 60 tickle per time. There is also a wholesale depot in Yangon. Also we already formed the association for birds’ nests breeders and conduct with the relevant departments." In Myanmar, the birds’ nests can be found in Myeik, Kawthaung and Dawei of Tanintharyi Region and mostly exports to the China market, it’s reported.
