





Department of Consumer Affairs organized a workshop on consumer protection and implementation on online sales at the UMFCCI in Yangon on Monday.
The workshop was held with the aim to get full opportunities for consumers on online sales and to reveal the ways to solve the problems of consumers they are facing.
Director General, Department of Consumer Affairs, Myint Cho, said " There are advantages of online sales like people can buy what they like from home by using delivery services. Nowadays, online sales markets are wider and become popular. On the other hand, we can see fake online pages. That’s why, we held this workshop under the instruction of the Myanmar Consumer Protection Commission."
The Director General also added that if licenses are issued for online sales,sales pages without licenses will be gone and consumers will protected to some extent. Experts from the government side and private businesses led the discussion and a question and answer session was included.
Deputy Director , Department of Consumer Affairs , Htet Win Aung , said " Sellers are selling their products on social media platforms by using various names. Some of them sell their products live and some through direct marketing. So, in this workshop, we’d discuss ways for consumer protection concerning with online sales."
Currently, there are over 3,000 complaints from consumers across the country and over 220 out of the complaints are related with online sales.At the workshop,participants dividing into three groups discussed such issues as issuance of license for online sales, control and monitor and solving complaints.
