Mann ShweSettaw Pagoda Festival: Festival will be held for 83 days

Mann Shwe Settaw Buddha Pada Pujaniya Pagoda Festival, the largest Buddhist Festival in Myanmar, commenced on 25th January.

The opening ceremony of Mann Shwe Settaw pagoda festival is held in Minbu Township of Magwe Regionon 5thwaxing day of the month of Tabodwe.

Aiming for the convenience of pilgrims and devotees from all over the country, around 480 hostels and 420 shops have been constructed during this year festival.

The devotees, monks and locals are allowed to spend the night in hostels in accordance with the rules and regulations.

Visitors, Than Lwin said "I visited the previous pagoda festival but it’s not very teeming like this year. This year’s festival is more teeming, and as we can stay overnight, it’s very convenient for the pilgrims and visitors."

Visitors said "As Shwe Settaw pagoda festival is one of the most well-known and significant Pagoda festivals for Myanmar people, I would like to visit here again and again."

During the opening ceremony of Mann Shwe Settaw Pagoda Festival, the 100-ft long steel bailey bridge which is donated by SAC Chairman Prime Minster Senior General Min Aung Hlaing was opened. The bailey bridge was constructed to substitute the previous wooden bridge.

The Pagoda Board of Trustees said plans are being undertaken for better drainage system at lower golden footprint and for better water flow for pilgrims.

Administrator, Minbu District, Magwe Region, Htun Htun Win said "Mann Shwe Settaw pagoda festival opening ceremony has not been held in the previous years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Arrangements are being made for overnight stay for pilgrims to be as teeming as the time before the pandemic. About 480 hostels have been constructed and about 420 shops have already been opened at the festival. Plans are being made to locate more shops as per the request."

The Mann Shwe Settaw Pagoda festival is annually held from 5th waxing day of the month of Tabodwe to the 1st day of Myanmar New Year which usually falls in April. This year’s festival will be last for 83 days.
