Members of Bolivia's Aymara Indigenous community climbed the sacred hill of Inca Pucará on the outskirts of La Paz on Wednesday, to pray for rain. The devout residents said they desperately needed rainfall for their harvests. An Aymara leader of rural communities in La Paz, said it had not rained since the year before, and that they would need to perform this ritual more often as rain became scarcer.

The farming community depends on potatoes, beans, carrots, quinoa and peas, all part of their traditional diet. Bolivia is experiencing a drought that the government blamed on the "La Niña" climatic oscillation, and seven regions have been affected by it. Authorities expect rain in December, but in the meantime have called on the population to save water.
