Macron: Russia war is 'major strategic error'

The conflict in Ukraine is "a major strategic error'," French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday, as the NATO's summit in Madrid came to a close.

Russia's choice to launch the conflict would have been the strengthening of the alliance (NATO) and the strengthening between Europeans within that alliance," said Macron.

France is ready to send more troops to Romania if needed as part of the NATO mission to bolster forces on its eastern flank following Russia’s military operation. France already has around 500 soldiers and an air defense system deployed in Romania.
