Lula rallies supporters in Rio ahead of Brazil’s election

A large crowd of supporters greeted Brazil's leftist President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva as he holds election rally at Moca Bonita Stadium in Rio de Janeiro ahead of October elections. Lula, 80, is seeking a fourth term against his right-wing rival Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro.

During his rallies and international appearances (including the UN General Assembly), Lula forcefully pushed back against foreign interference, warning that Brazil "does not fit in anyone's backyard". In Rio, Lula has rallied alongside local allies and candidates, focusing heavily on issues ranging from domestic security and crime-fighting policies to protecting national resources.
