Massive sandstorm hits Irbil in Iraq

A heavy sandstorm hit the city of Irbil on Saturday slowing traffic because of wind and low visibility conditions. The storm engulfed the city during the evening and was accompanied by rainfall in different areas.

Some shops across the city closed their doors earlier due to the bad weather. Sandstorms are a regular occurrence in Iraq, but recent drought conditions have increased their severity.
