

Locals throughout eastern Afghanistan on Thursday dug graves in villages reduced to rubble by a powerful earthquake that struck a rural, mountainous region of the country's east, killing 1,000 people and injuring 1,500 more.
The magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred in the eastern province of Khost early Wednesday.The quake was Afghanistan’s deadliest in two decades, and the death toll could rise.The European seismological agency said the quake was felt over 500 kilometers by 119 million people across Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.
