A forest fire near Berlin has burned more than 200 hectares amid an unusual heat wave in Western Europe for this time of year. The fire that broke out in Treuenbrietzen on Sunday has yet to be contained. Local media reported that about 500 emergency personnel from all over Brandenburg were deployed in an effort to get the blaze under control.

Strong winds that rose on Sunday have fanned the fire, helping it spread further and prompting evacuations in Treuenbrietzen, Frohnsdorf and Klausdorf, according to the district's media spokeswoman. Germany has seen numerous wildfires in recent days following a period of intense heat and little rain.
