President Joe Biden ordered emergency measures Monday to boost crucial supplies to U.S. solar manufacturers and declared a two-year tariff exemption on solar panels from Southeast Asia as he attempted to jumpstart progress toward his climate change-fighting goals.

Karine Jean-Pierre, White House press secretary said "He is invoking the Defense Production Act to rapidly expand domestic production of solar panel parts, building insulation, heat pumps and more. He is putting the full force of the federal government's purchasing power behind supporting American clean energy manufacturers. And he is providing U.S. solar, the players, the short term stability they need to build clean energy projects and deliver more affordable energy to American families and business.

White House officials said Biden's actions aim to increase domestic production of solar panel parts, building installation materials, high-efficiency heat pumps and other components including cells used for clean-energy generated fuels.
