
Union Minister for Electric Power and Energy U Thaung Han, together with the Deputy Minister and officials, visited Middle Paung Laung Hydropower Project on Wednesday.
The project is being implemented on Paung Laung River, about 20 miles northeast of Pyinmana in Nay Pyi Taw Council area. The Union Minister stressed that the access of electricity is essential for development of the nation. He gave instructions on constant implementation of new hydropower projects which could have least impact on the natural environment and society.
The Union Minister and party later inspected the construction works for the main embankment, power plant and the bridge. The Middle Paung Laung Hydropower project could generate 530.4 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually with the capacity of two 76-megawatt installed generators.
It is expected to commence power generation in 2026-2027, and will distribute electricity via the National Grid. The Union Minister and party later proceeded to Nan Cho Hydropower project and inspected the storage of water and water intake building.
