Strict COVID-19 lockdown continues in Shanghai

China has sent thousands of medial workers to Shanghai along with the military to try to control a COVID-19 outbreak, as the city's lockdown entered its second week.

Over 2,000 personnel of medical services units affiliated with the army, navy and joint logistics support force were dispatched to Shanghai on Sunday.Over 10,000 medical workers from other provinces are also arriving in Shanghai on Monday to help conduct testing, medical treatment and other efforts. China's National Health Commission said Shanghai on Monday reported 425 confirmed cases and 8,581 asymptomatic cases over the previous 24 hours.The city with 25 million people began lockdown last week with residents mostly confined to their homes and only allowed to leave for mass testing. China has maintained a zero-tolerance policy towards the pandemic that uses mass testing, tracing, quarantine and border controls.
