South Korean President-elect Yoon Suk Yeol said Sunday he will relocate the presidential office to the defence ministry building by the start of his term. Yoon said the current presidential office, the so-called Blue House, is closed to the public and represents imperial presidency.

By relocating the presidential office to the current defence ministry building in the Yongsan district, the new government will get closer to the public and openly communicate with the people, Yoon said.

The new government will speed up creating the Yongsan Park in the U.S. military base near the defence ministry building, which will be sequentially returned to South Korea.

Yoon believes the opening of the park near the new presidential office will enable the government to be physically closer to the public and facilitate communication.
