


The Region/State traditional boat-rowing Competition-2022, organized by the Sports and Physical Education Department of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs launched at Inya Lake in Yangon, Monday under COVID-19 preventive guidelines.
The event aims for having long-term achievement of Myanmar traditional boat-race and turning out new generation athletes from regions and states.
Kyaw Oo, Deputy Director-General, Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs said “By holding region/ state boat-race, all national brethren have a chance to meet together in Yangon and they can visit the beautiful places of Yangon. They will have more friendly relations. Moreover, we hope to turn out new generations with mental and physical fitness for the nation. I think the event will also benefit for selected Myanmar rowing team.”
355 participants including instructors and coaches of 13 men rowing teams and 9 women teams from Regions and states are participating in the event.
Nilar Hlaing, Rower (Ayeyawady Region) said “In this competition, I will participate in the 4 events. I started boat rowing since learning education. I faced difficulties at the beginning but I gained a lot of experience. I’m very happy and satisfied with participating in the event and I’m also proud of me. I will try more for the achievement.”
Men 7 paddle and 10 paddle 200/500-m events, Women 7 paddle and 10 paddle events and Mix 10 paddle 200/500-m event are focused on the competition.
Thet Aung, Rower (Bago Region) said “We conducted intensive training for about 15 days before the completion. I’m very satisfied with participating in the competition.”
Htet Myat Po Mo, Rower (Taninthayi Region) said “We took at 4th position in 7 paddle event, won second in the 10 paddle and got third place in another 7 paddle event. I am very happy for participating in the event because I can’t take part in the competition for a long time because of COVID-19.”
Altogether 10 gold prizes, men and women championships and mix championship awards will be presented. The competition will last two days from 31st January to 1st February.
