Health authorities in São Paulo started vaccinating adults with Down syndrome on Monday because authorities considered at high risk for the coronavirus. The new phase of the vaccination program, focusing on those with Down syndrome, kidney diseases and organ transplants, was launched by São Paulo's governor João Doria.

Vaccine patients with Down syndrome were delighted to get jab, and could be seen fist-bumping the governor. According to Brazil's Federation of Down Syndrome Associations, one in 700 newborns has Down syndrome, amounting to a population of 66,000 in São Paulo state.
