US federal agents have reportedly searched the home of Representative Ilhan Omar, a Democrat and critic of the immigration policy of President Donald Trump's administration. US media outlets say Homeland Security Investigations, a branch of the Department of Homeland Security, carried out the search of Omar's house in Washington DC on Monday.

The reports quote sources as saying that the search stems from a criminal investigation into the Somali-born congresswoman's immigration paperwork. Omar is running for reelection in the November midterm elections. US media say it is unusual for a search to be conducted so close to an election as it could affect the outcome.
