A senior official of Yemen's anti-government Houthi forces has warned that US participation in the Saudi-led military campaign against the group will be met with "a swift and painful response."
The warning follows Houthi strikes on an international airport in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, which killed 14 people and injured more than 300 others over the weekend. Reuter news agency reports that Saudi authorities have extended the closure of the airport until October 17 due to damage.
On Monday, the Saudi-led coalition backing Yemen's interim government announced a Houthi missile fired towards Riyadh had been intercepted. When asked by reporters on Saturday if the US would join Saudi Arabia's military campaign against the Houthis, President Donald Trump replied: "They may. They're going to look at it."
