Citroën unveiled its next electric model, inspired by its legendary 2CV, in a flamboyant red with yellow seats. As competition from Asian manufacturers intensifies in the European market, the double-chevron brand is banking on an affordable vehicle, which is expected to cost less than 15,000 euros.

According to Caroline Malléus, head of product and strategy at Citroën, this reinterpretation is not merely intended to play the nostalgia card, but to remove the financial barriers to the transition to electric vehicles for as wide an audience as possible.

The original Citroen 2CV was launched in 1948, as Europe was recovering from the ravages of World War Two. It was designed as a cheap, robust way for French farmers and country folk to get around.
