Spain began administering COVID-19 vaccines to essential workers on Wednesday. In the northeastern region of Catalonia, officers from the regional police force, Mossos D'Esquadra, were administered the first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

The regional health office said it was administering doses of the vaccine to public security and emergency workers such as firefighters and police officers. Pharmacy workers and physical therapists were also included in the latest group of essential workers. Spain has administered 2.23 million vaccines, almost 890,000 of them complete doses. The first doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine arrived in Spain last Saturday. The country is expected to receive a total of 1.8 million AstraZeneca vaccines throughout the month of February.
