Hundreds of people carrying Argentinean flags marched on Monday in front of the Congress in Buenos Aires to showcase their rejection of an abortion bill due to be debated on Tuesday. The controversial proposal that could legalize abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy has sparked heated debate in recent months in the South American country. The Catholic Church is strongly opposed to this bill.

Latin America has some of the world's most restrictive abortion laws. Currently, many women who have an abortion in Argentina, as well as people who assist them with the procedure, can face prosecution. Exemptions are only considered in cases of rape or if the pregnancy poses a risk to the mother's health.
