
In New Orleans, Ochsner Medical Center has begun administering the city's first round of COVID vaccines on Monday.
There were to be nearly 1,000 vaccines administered to essential hospital workers, ICU patients and others at highest risk of exposure according to CDC guidelines.
Another 9,000-plus vaccines were expected to be delivered to hospitals in other cities across Louisiana throughout the week.
Gov. John Bel Edwards said "It is going to take several months – five, six months, something like that – to get to the general population. We will do this in phases by priority. But this is a great day because we're going to eventually get enough people vaccinated with this safe and effective vaccine that we will start to put this pandemic in the rearview mirror."
