
The leaders of Kenya and Ethiopia opened a joint one-stop border post on Wednesday in Moyale, a market town which straddles both countries.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed hailed it as a key milestone for the two countires that would help integrate East Africa as one family. Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta said that local residents in Moyale had a "central role" to play in strengthening the nations' ties.
The new border infrastructure will form part of the Trans-African Highway project. Security was also on the agenda.
The meeting between the two heads of state came amid international calls for more transparency into the month-long fighting between Ethiopian forces and the fugitive Tigray regional government that is thought to have killed thousands.
