A plane carrying the first international students to arrive in Australia since the coronavirus pandemic began landed in Darwin on Monday.

The students from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam, and Indonesia were all enrolled at Charles Darwin University and were required to undertake health screening. They will quarantine for two weeks at nearby the Howard Springs facility.

The Vice-Chancellor of Charles Darwin University Simon Maddocks said the students were a mix of new and previously enrolled students returning to the city. Maddocks told reporters he hopes the university can continue to run these flights into the early part of next year. The Northern Territory government will fund students by providing employability skills training, social networking events and wellbeing workshops.
