


At least 113 jade scavengers were killed at the pile of mine waste collapsing occurred at Hpakant Township, Kachin State at about 8 Am on 2nd July, 2020 according to the report of the fire service department.
While the jade scavengers were mining at the abandoned jade mine block of jade mine companies, the massive landslide happened due to the heavy rain. The jade scavengers were overtaken by the muddy wave and buried under the mud.
The rescue works carried out by the member of fire service department personnel, respective organizations and local authorities are underway. 35 bodies of jade scavengers have been recovered at 9:30 Am, 15 bodies at 10:00 Am, 37 bodies at 11:10 Am and 26 bodies at 12:05 Am so far, according to the update report of Myanmar Fire Service Department.
