Macron meets with Sahel leaders, Spain's Sanchez in Nouakchott

French President Emmanuel Macron met with the leaders of the West African Sahel region countries on Tuesday in the Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott for a working session to discuss security in the zone.

Macron and the leaders of Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali and Niger were joined by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, EU Council President Charles Michel and German Chancellor Angela Merkel also attended via video call. The summit also focused on re-establishing state governance and consolidation of armies in the Sahel.
