A powerful 7.5-magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of Mexico and rocked Mexico City and the southern and central regions of the country on Tuesday. The epicenter was located 23 kilometers south of a Pacific coastal village in southern Oaxaca state, according to the National Seismological Service (SSN). The quake set off a tsunami warning with a radius of 1,000 kilometers along the coasts of Central and South America, and waves of up to three meters are predicted, according to the U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

At least four people have been killed, and dozens of buildings in Mexico City suffered varying degrees of damage. According to the National Civil Protection Coordination, the quake was felt across seven states. The quake also triggered landslides that blocked some roads and caused power outages in some areas.
