Argentina confirmed more than 1,000 new cases of coronavirus on Tuesday as the rate of new infections continued to rise just days after it extended lockdown measures in the capital Buenos Aires. Argentina extended a mandatory lockdown in Buenos Aires last week. But hundreds of people went out on Tuesday to exercise in the city of Buenos Aires and to avoid further crowding.

Local food markets have restarted their activities and have implemented biosecurity measures to stop the spread of COVID-19. Argentina's Health Ministry recorded 1,141 new cases and 24 deaths in the past 24 hours, pushing its totals to over 24,000 cases and over 700 deaths since the outbreak began in early March.
