Protesters kneeled in silence in demonstrations across parts of England on Wednesday in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Protesters in London, Manchester and Hull observed 9 minutes of silence - the same amount of time a white police officer pinned his knee to the neck of African American George Floyd, killing him in Minneapolis on May 25.

Protesters in Britain and the U.S. have torn down statues with links to the slave trade. Floyd's death sparked a wave of protests against police violence and racism across the U.S., and inspired demonstrations across the world.
