Development Of Kendo: Japan Kendo Association Donated Bogu Set And Accessories

Embassy of Japan handed over Kendo BOGU SET and accessories to Myanmar Kendo Association was held at Kendo Training Center in Yangon on 18th March.

The ceremony was attended by Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan, Vice president of the Myanmar Kendo Association and many other officials.

Counsellor, Embassy of Japan, Junichi HOSONO said “I hope this donation was saving date our mutual relationship between Myanmar and Japan. In Myanmar, there are so many people who try to develop Kendo in Myanmar both Japanese and Myanmar people so, I hope this saving date the development of Kendo in Myanmar. The embassy of Japan, we direct to keep supporting their efforts for the development of Kendo in Myanmar.”

This is the first official donation from Japan Kendo Association. Myanmar Kendo Association was established in 2016 and there are about 20 Kendo students. Myanmar Kendo players took part in competitions local and abroad and won prizes.

Vice President, Myanmar Kendo Association, Htoon Zaw said “We sent a letter to Japan Kendo Association, asking that we can get BOGU SET and accessories. They said ‘Yes’ and sent. We have many plans to do but we have difficulties. Association can’t do anything without budget. If we get strong budget and support, we will call coaches from the regions. We also have plans to donate the Kendo BOGU SET to the regions and states. We can turn out trainees and spread Kendo sport across the country.”

The donated items are 20 sets of protective gears (BOGU) and 20 sets of bamboo swords (Shinai). Kendo is traditional Japanese martial art and uses bamboo swords (Shinai) and protective armour (BOGU). It is an activity that combines martial arts practices and values with strenuous sport-like physical activity.
