
Ministries of Health together with World Health Organization (WHO), international health organizations have been working closely for the preventive and control measures against 2019 novel coronavirus outbreak around the world.
According to the data announcement on coronavirus reported by WHO on 2nd March 2020, the overall confirmed cases on the main land reached 80,174 and 2,915 death in China. Myanmar Health Authority has reported on Tuesday that 5 suspected patients are being closely monitored in their respective hospitals and their health is in good condition.

Representative to Myanmar, World Health Organization, Dr. Stephan Paul Jost said “…coronavirus outbreak currently is at critical moment, there are 89,000 cases confirmed globally. The large majority, just over 80,000 are within China and again by further largest share of the confirmed cases in China come from one province, Hubei Province. At the same time outside of China, the coronavirus come epidemic is also increasing rapidly and we see now almost 90,000 cases in the countries outside of China. And in fact, only a few days ago, when the worst is if it’s at tipping point, when the number of new cases over the last 24 hours from within China. Worst first equal and then, it’s not exceeded by the number of new cases on the last 24 hours outside China. And the gap between the new cases of within the China and outside the China is widening and we’ve seen that now steadily for four days running. So, that is the concerning trend- it means that now the coronavirus outbreak is reaching other part of the world at its increasing pace and it’s urgent that containment, be the top priority for all countries……”
The epidemic of COVID-19 is worsening in a few Asian countries such as South Korea, Japan and Iran. South Korea reported 600 new cases on march 2 alone, bring the total number of confirmed cases up to 4,812 and the total number of deaths up to 29. According to the WHO latest report, the total number of confirmed cases jumped to 88,948 around the world including China.
Meanwhile, WHO also shared protective measures for the people and added continuation efforts to support Myanmar in dealing with the situations.
Representative to Myanmar, World Health Organization, Dr. Stephan Paul Jost said “In fact, we’ve been advising Myanmar health authorities since the beginning of the outbreak January 5th, in fact. And we continue to in that on daily basis. Remember this is new virus, new disease- much is unknown and clearly the evidences unfolding almost as we speak from data around the world from within the China and increasing enough from other countries –Korea, Japan, France, Italy, Germany, United states of America, and many more…”
About 64 countries including Thailand, Singapore, Nepal, Vietnam, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Canada, the United States, France, Australia and others countries have reported cases of infection.
Myanmar Health Authority said medical screenings and surveillance measures to prevent the coronavirus have been places on alert at the internationals airport, seaports as well as border crossings across the country.
