Romania confirms first virus case

Romania confirmed the first coronavirus case on its territory on Wednesday evening, according to the Minister of health and chief of emergency situations department. The man tested positive after contacting an Italian citizen in Gorj country, in Romania's south west. Seven other people who had been living in his house will be isolated as a precaution.

Authorities stressed they were well prepared to deal with the virus and urged citizens to remain calm and follow instructions issued by the Ministry of Health. Although this is the first case on Romanian soil, two Romanian citizens are being treated for the virus in a Japanese hospital and nine others remain quarantined onboard the cruise ship Diamond Princess.
