A peace forum with political Experts and youths was held at the Arts Hall of Yangon University on Saturday.

Jointly organized by Centre for Development for Ethnic Studies (CDES) and Yangon Region Youth Affairs Committee (YRYAC), the forum aims at all-inclusive participation in implementation of peace process and discussion of the views between political experts and youths. Vice Chairman of Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC) gave a key note speech at the forum.

Vice Chairman, Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee, Dr. Salai Hlyan Hmone Sar Khaung said “The very first reason to have organized the peace forum is because we are trying to raise public awareness on implementation of peace process. As I’m a participant in implementation of the peace process, I’m going to share the facts that people should know. To achieve peace in our country, students, teachers and educated persons especially youths need to participate and collaborate with the others.”

In line with the peace implementation process under the NCA, officials are trying to hold the National Level Political Dialogue regularly based on three methods; ethnics, regions and reasons, which means all inclusive participation, the Vice Chairman added.

National Representative, Yangon Region Youth Affairs Committee, Htet Paing Soe said “Based on the Youth Policy, Yangon Region Youth Affairs Committee has been working on 16 sectors which include peace process as a main role. Peace Forum is annually held by CEDS and this is the first time in Yangon in collaboration with us. Today, we would conduct 2 sessions; one is sharing the facts by political experts and the 2nd is discussion by YRYAC youths who are participating in peace sector so that voices of the youths can be included in peace process and common agenda.”

The two sessions of the forum were the role of youth in Myanmar peace process and the current peace process, opportunities and challenges.
