Mexico truck crash kills one, injures at least 81 migrants en route north

in the Mexican state of Veracruz, one Central American migrant died and at least 81 others were injured after the open back truck overturned on Tuesday, local authorities reported. State civil protection authorities said the accident took place at 8am local time in San Andres Tuxtla along the 180 federal highway.

According to Veracruz Civil Protection spokesman, the victims were taken to three different state hospitals where they are receiving medical care. The migrants come from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. A temporary facility was set up at a children's shelter in San Andres Tuxtla.

At that shelter, accommodation, food and care was being provided to those who suffered from minor injuries but did not require hospitalization. Mexico is under intense pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump to contain mass movements of migrants.
