World Engineering Day: Celebration To Be Held For The 1st Time In Myanmar

The very 1st World Engineering Day 2020 will be held from 4th to 6th March in Myanmar.

It will be organized by the Federation of Myanmar Engineering Society in Cooperation with Myanmar Engineering Council.

The World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) proposed 4th March as World Engineering Day, the founding of the federation, as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the federation in 2018. The 40th general Conference of UNESCO has adopted the resolution to proclaim the 4th of March of every year as World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development in 2019. 

President, Myanmar Engineering Council, Dr. Charlie Than said “The World Engineering Day aims to raise awareness on the importance of engineering capacity for sustainable development of a nation to the public, to achieve the UN Sustainable Developments Goals, and to get more involvements of young generation especially, woman engineers in the engineering industry.”

The World Engineering Day will be celebrated annually from 2020 onwards- to highlight the achievement of engineers and engineering in the modern world and improve public understanding of how engineering and technology is important to modern life and sustainable development.

President, Myanmar Engineering Council, Dr. Charlie Than said “We can highlight the engineering education, the performances of engineers in Myanmar and implement the future plans for sustainable development through the celebration of this day. This day is also about promoting engineering as a career and how it is an opportunity to change the world for better.”

The World Engineering Day celebration in Myanmar will be held on separate occasions at Myanmar Engineering Society and Myanmar Engineering Council in Yangon. It will include exhibitions, talk shows and keynote speeches by the engineering professionals and experts.

The commemoration dinner will also be hosted on the evening of 6th March in Nay Pyi Taw along with the award presentation for outstanding engineering awards including the Best Engineering Achievement for Sustainable Development, Young Engineer of the Year 2020 and the Best Achievements of Young Engineers.
