




The Ministry of Immigration and Population is implementing for the collecting of 2024 Population and Housing Census by setting four processes including preparation, collecting census data, compiling the statistics and making assessment and issuing reports.
For the time being, the preparation measures are being implemented and the workshop for drafting form of questionnaire by the data users was held at the Myanmar International Convention Centre (2) Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on 6th of March with the attendance of the chairman of central census commission Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing, deputy ministers, senior officials, representatives from the organizations and invited persons.
In his opening remark, the Chairman of Central Census Commission Union Minister U Myint Kyaing said this meeting is held to conduct the collective discussion by the attendees on the draft form of questionnaire which will be used in the 2024 Nationwide population and housing census so that the necessary indexes to implement Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan –MSDP and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Likewise, the assessment on the impact of COVID-19 on the population and socio-economic conditions and the following consequences will be obtained. The time has reached to collect next population and housing census in 2024 after 10 years of 2014 nationwide population and housing census.
The collection of population census is a must to acquire the accurate population and socio-economic conditions to the smallest administrative region. So, the matter to collect the nationwide population and housing census was submitted to the State Administration Council and sought the permission.
The Ministry is mainly implementing the process as a national duty. In collecting 2024 population and housing census, the reference time of census has set the midnight of September 30th, 2024. The enumeration process will take place 15 days from the 1st October which will be next day of the reference date and time to the October 15. During the 2024 population and housing census, the enumerators will collect door by door using Mobile Tablet with the Computer Assisted Personal Interviews-CAPI.
In compiling the form of questionnaire, it needs to carry out in line with the Principles and Recommendation for Population and Housing Census-Revision 3 published by the United Nations. Next, the director general of the population department and deputy director general clarified the purpose of conducting workshop and status of implementation for the collecting census and the indicators contained in the questionnaire and the responsible officials explained the form of questionnaire in segments.
In the afternoon, the attendees from the relevant ministries and organizations gave suggestions and opinions by grouping regarding with the form of questionnaire to be used during the census, it’s learnt.
