To prevent price hikes and to maintain fair pricing for essential food items, consumer goods, and construction materials regularly purchased and used by the public in Shan State, the Shan State Commodity Price Stability Working Committee held its Coordination Meeting (1/2025) at the meeting hall of the Shan State Government Office in Taunggyi on May 7.

At the meeting, the Working Committee Chairman Chief Minister U Aung Aung addressed the current reconstruction efforts in various states and regions affected by recent earthquake. He noted that there is a high demand for construction materials, particularly cement, and that some opportunistic producers are exploiting the situation by inflating prices excessively and selling through unethical means. While many people want to rebuild their damaged homes quickly, rising prices of iron and cement are creating difficulties. Therefore, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for the Shan State Price Stability Committee to regulate and control these practices.

Following this, the committee’s secretary presented updates on ongoing operations. During the general discussion session, the Chief Minister also contributed further remarks addressing the needs and priorities.

Later, the State Government Secretary and the State Advocate General discussed the importance of participating actively in price stabilization efforts. They also emphasized that if individuals are found selling goods at unreasonable and unfairly inflated prices, appropriate legal action should be taken.

After that, the Chief Minister delivered closing remarks and concluded the meeting.
