The Civil Society Network May Doe Kabar successfully organized its fourth “Convention of National Network for Rural Women” in Yangon on Wednesday.

It aims to promote the women participation in state building processes, to represent the public sector, to promote the rural women’s leadership skills and to improve women empowerment and sustainable self-reliant groups across Myanmar as well. May Doe Kabar Network was founded in 2015 and they have been organizing the National Convention annually along with the commemoration ceremony of International Day for Rural Women, which falls on 15 October.

Vice Chairperson, May Doe Kabar, Nyo Nyo San said “This is the commemoration event of International Day for Rural Women and the Anniversary of National Network for Rural Women. Here, we’d discuss difficulties, problems and review the achievement, implementation process and further development projects together with rural sisters from 31 townships.”

Women from rural based Self-Reliant Groups (SRGs) and Township Leading Groups (TLGs) are in the network working on gender equality and capacity development for the network members and local women in Myanmar with long term visions.

Vice Chairperson, May Doe Kabar, Nyo Nyo San said “In 2020, we will focus on a market for rural and traditional products from those 31 townships as the products can’t fetch reasonable price at the moment. So, we are going to work on how to maintain our rural products and how we place in the standard market. Our Network will keep working on peace and security in those 31 townships.”

Currently, the Civil Society Network May Doe Kabar has 22,000 members from 2,000 villages in 31 townships in Ayeyarwady Delta, Dry Zone and Chin, Kachin, Kayah, Mon, Rakhine and Shan states.
