Presidential Election: Senior General Min Aung Hlaing elected as President

Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, was elected as President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, during the Presidential Election at the first regular session of Third Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, held in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.

He secured the presidency among three designated Vice-Presidents, winning a majority of votes. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received (429) votes, while U Nyo Saw was elected as Vice President-1 with ( 126) votes, and Daw Nan Ni Ni Aye as Vice President-2 with (29) votes.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing was nominated for the presidency by representatives of the Pyithu Hluttaw. Daw Nan Ni Ni Aye from the Kayin State Constituency-1 (PR System) was nominated by the Amyotha Hluttaw representatives, while U Nyo Saw from the Cocokyun Constituency was nominated by the Tatmadaw Personnel Hluttaw representatives. According to the State Constitution, the terms of the office for the President and Vice-Presidents are set at five years. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing will become the 11th President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
