Winter Olympics inspires children in China to skate

Winter sports enthusiasts in Beijing say hosting the Olympics is encouraging China's young people to get involved, as well as pushing them to set ambitious goals.  Young figure skaters in Beijing said the Olympic athletes were providing much inspiration and motivation.

Compared to other winter sports that are new to many Chinese, figure skating is more commonly known in China. Japanese singles figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu enjoys popularity among the younger generations in the country after his attempt to complete the 4A jump in the men's singles final.

The Beijing Uniterra Skating Club in the city's northeast has seen the number of skaters and the number of inquiries grow by nine times since the opening of the Winter Olympics on February 4.
