Weather Report : Rising river levels and low pressure area

Water levels in several major rivers remained above their danger marks as of 6:30 a.m. Myanmar Standard Time on Sunday, according to observations.

The Chindwin River at Minkin and Monywa, the Thanlwin River at Hpa-an, and the Sittaung River at Madauk were above their respective danger levels. The water level at Minkin, Monywa and Hpa-an is expected to rise further over the next 24 hours, while the level at Madauk is forecast to fall slightly but remain above the danger mark.

At Myitnge, the Dokehtawady River was more than two feet below its danger level but is expected to rise by about one foot during the next 24 hours and may reach above the danger level.

People living near riverbanks and in low-lying areas in Minkin, Monywa, Hpa-an, Madauk and Myitnge are advised to take necessary precautions. Meanwhile, a low-pressure area over southwestern Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Odisha had moved toward North Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand.

The monsoon remains strong over the Andaman Sea and southern Bay of Bengal and moderate to strong elsewhere over the Bay of Bengal, with partly cloudy to cloudy conditions expected.
