The Magwe Region Department of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management is implementing an Artificial Groundwater Recharge project to help restore the region's groundwater levels.

On May 16, Chief Minister U Tin Ko Ko visited the project site to oversee the works. Magwe Region mainly relies on groundwater for both drinking and irrigation purposes. However, due to climate change and increased paving of concrete in residential areas, the amount of rainwater infiltrating the ground has been reduced.

To address this issue, the department is implementing an artificial groundwater recharge system using the Direct Injection Method. From January 1, 2025, to date, 378,000 gallons of rainwater have been secured, and changes in groundwater levels have been monitored monthly through Groundwater Monitoring Wells.
