Water Pouring Ceremony: Celebrating Buddha Day in Nay Pyi Taw

Myanmar Buddhists celebrate the Water Pouring Ceremony on the Full Moon Day of Kasone which falls on Sunday. In Nay Pyi Taw, the celebration was held at the Maravijaya Buddha Park with the attendance of Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife.

Prior to the event, the Prime Minister and wife offered flowers, water and light to the Maravijaya Buddha Image. This was followed by pouring of water to the Maha Bodhi tree, participated by the Prime Minister and wife, Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice Senior General Soe Win and wife, Council Secretary, Join-Secretary, Council members, union level personnel and their wives as well as the Wut Associations.

Likewise, the Water Pouring Ceremonies were held at Lawka Chantha Sutaung Pyaye Pagoda in Zeyathiri Township.

The Full Moon Day of Kasone is the day that the Dipankara Buddha predicted the attainment of Buddhahood to Sumedha Hermit, the day the Prince Siddhartha was born, the day that attained enlightened and the day of attaining Nirvana.  Buddhists celebrate this day significantly as the Buddha Day. Pouring water to the Banyan trees is not only the religious event but also the symbol of Myanmar culture.
