UNESCO to list more sites as in danger from conflict or climate change

The UNESCO members are set to vote on fast-tracking several sites onto the World Heritage in Danger list during their upcoming meeting in Busan, South Korea. Threats from armed conflict and ecological degradation are the primary drivers for these new designations.

The priority to vote is five castles in south Lebanon, Boma-Badingilo grassland and woodland savannahs in South Sudan as under threat from both war and climate change. Beyond these priority cases, some listed heritage spots labelled as endangered will be discussed.
