The Union of Myanmar Travel Association (UMTA) Travel Fair 2026 was opened at Sedona Hotel Yangon on Saturday, in conjunction with a tourism forum.
The Ministry of Hotels, Tourism and Culture, in cooperation with the private sector, is making continuous and active efforts to increase tourist arrivals in the country.
In addition, the Ministry is implementing digital marketing strategies. Ultimately, increasing tourist arrivals will contribute to higher foreign exchange earnings. The event aims to attract more international tourists through promoting activities.
Director General, Directorate of Hotels and Tourism, Aung Aye Han said "Travel fairs plays a vital role, as visitors will come to Myanmar only when they are aware of its benefits and attractions, including its rich natural beauty and rich ancient cultural heritage. By widely promoting these attractions through travel fairs, we can generate greater interest among tourists and encourage them to visit."
Chairman, Union of Myanmar Travel Association (UMTA), Kyaw Phone Naing said "We would like to welcome more visitors to our country and are ready to receive every international tourist who wishes to see Myanmar’s beauty and experience the country firsthand. ... We would like the international travel agents who are participating in today’s travel fair to visit Myanmar."
The event is being held with the aim of revitalizing Myanmar’s tourism industry and supporting the survival of member tourism businesses, particularly by attracting international tourists not only from ASEAN countries but also from around the world. In particular, more travel agents and tourists are expected from Europe, as well as ASEAN countries, China, and India.
Tori Travel, Marketing Manager, Poe Thinzar Kyaw said "By holding this kind of travel fair, customers can meet travel and tour agents all in one place. In return, travel agents are able to communicate with customers more effectively. During the COVID-19 pandemic period, most customers purchased tickets online. However, with these fairs, agents and customers can now interact face-to-face, making the experience more lively and engaging."
The fair will be held from June 12 to 15, with the participation of both international and local tour and travel agencies.
