Workers from the European Union who left Britain while the coronavirus lockdown shut much of the economy are welcome back but must quarantine like other travelers, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Wednesday.

The government plans to introduce a 14-day quarantine period for almost everyone entering the country from June 8. He also said the UK government would continue to support workers as job losses were inevitable, and warned people that flouting lockdown regulations would undermine the work that had been done to tackle the coronavirus. Johnson said the UK's death toll was now 39,728, second highest in the world after the United States.
