The UK government's Northern Ireland secretary said Sunday new legislation allowing lawmakers to dismiss parts of the Brexit agreement governing trade in Northern Ireland was "lawful" and "correct."

Brandon Lewis, UK Secretary of State for Northern Ireland said “And I think it is right that we're very clear to people there are a number of legal routes to which people can come to this country, and that's important for two reasons. One is we've got to make sure that when people come here, we can give them the proper support to be part of our society. But people who come in illegally, we've got to make sure that these vile (migrant trafficking) gangs know that that will not work and it's not the right way to do it."

Commenting on the government's new policy of sending migrants to Rwanda, the Cabinet member said he stood behind the program, claiming it would stop trafficking gangs.
