British politician Nigel Farage announced on Tuesday that he would resign as a member of parliament to run in a snap by-election. The unusual move comes as Farage faces mounting pressure over the non-disclosure of gifts, including allegedly from a convicted fraudster.

He also faces additional scrutiny over reports that convicted fraudster George Cottrell paid for Farage’s private security and social media staff prior to the July 2024 general election. Farage denies any wrongdoing that the funds were private gifts intended strictly for security, arguing he was under no obligation to declare them.
